Although during his studies and for a long time after that he didn’t even want to hear about colors, color mixtures, brushes or an easel, the sculptor Alexandru Papuc started painting about three or four years ago. The most convenient explanation for this unexpected change of plastic language and artistic instruments would be that, joining his wife, the painter Irina Florescu, in the creative camps in which she constantly participates, she was “infected” from she and her colleagues. However, the real reason is much deeper, being related to his relatively recent preoccupations regarding the relations between sculpture, as a finished work, and the space around it.
