WHO IS ALVYDAS ?

Photoartist Alvydas Šalkauskas was born 1958 in Molėtai city. At the the moment works and creates in Šiauliai city. In 1985 years A. Šalkauskas was graduated from Šiauliai Kazis Preikšo Pedagogical Institute of Arts Faculty (now Šiauliai University Faculty of Social, Humanities and Arts). After graduating in 1993, the artist worked with his alma mater. Since 1993 A. Šalkauskas has been developing an individual business. Since 2004, Šiauliai Art School has been conducting photography, composition and sculpture. He take participating in art exhibitions since 1986. In the past, graphic and leather plastic works have been largely exhibited. Since 2006 A. Šalkauskas usually presents his creations at exhibitions. The artist organized 16 personal exhibitions and participated in 36 group exhibitions, art events: exhibitions and plenairs with professional artists. Since 2013, he has been a member of the Lithuanian Photoartists Union.
Recently, the artist organized a project with one artist from Latvia “Pinch salt”, the exhibition was presented in Lithuania and Latvia, in the exhibition was presented several fields of art: photography, graphics, art, artists from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and one artist from Moscow participated in the project.
The most famous cycles of A. Šalkaukas photography are to be mentioned: “Game of Light”, “Memories of the native village”, “Birthdays”, “Colleagues”, “Vilnius”, Lithuanian manors”, “Under the sign of the sun”, “During the flow of time”. Lithuanian manors are on the most important links of administrative, social, aesthetic, cultural state structure. The manors were staffed by the brightests of our nation, and the ideas of political thought science and arts were spreading. I discovered that the begining of the 20 th century there there were over three thousands manors in Lithuania. It is a pity that after wars, land reforms, soviet era demolitions, they survived about half a thousand. So every wish to immortality them in photographs is welcome.
The manors photographer from Šiauliai citie Alvydas Šalkauskas have not only the value of perpetuating history, but also the artistic –aesthetic side when photography becames creative space. Looking at the photos of the manors, becouse now they are photographed by a lot of things – everything white, bright, speciuos, beautiful. The same is true of the mansions immortalical by Alvydas ŠŠalkauskas expect that he is still inclined devioting from the ornateness of the manors, highlighting their primordality photography is left. By means of minimum measures, the photoartist scales the greatest expresions. The author also looks at the interior of the manors, tries to reveal the mood, tries to discern the essence.
