Description

Nicholas Tettey Wayo, is a veteran, contemporary Ghanaian artist, whose vivid art style has been a major influence in shaping the Ghanaian street art scene.
Nicholas TetteyWayo, a Ghanaian, Dangme and a Muslim, he hail from Dodowa, in the Greater Accra region of Ghana. He started drawing with charcoal, and pencil on walls at the age of 8 years; after seeing his father’s art sketches when he was a student.started drawing from memory of Movie posters at the cinema and started painting movie posters in 1995.. Even though Art is an innate talent, he had 3 months training under Mr. Okyere in 1996 painting the movie posters and signage for barber shops, hair salon and other businesses etc. Nicholas worked with advertising companies in order to experience large scale painting and murals from 1997 to 2001. He met with the legend Ghanaian musician called Kojo Antwi and started painting backdrops for live performances in 1997.
He is the CEO of Nico Wayo art and adverts (Contact: 0244099676), an arts business, which deals with various forms of art; from portraits, murals, pencil drawings, graffiti and sign writing (signage). he also organize art workshops for individuals, schools, and various organizations etc. he’s work spans decades of commercial and public practice.
A member of Afuabe collective, Chale Wote Street Art Festival, Foundation for Contemporary Art, Accra train station who are into music using the local instruments of Africa for music and movies led by Steven Feld. Nicholas is a tutor at Nima Muhinmanchi Art.
Empowering and touching the lives of the youth by sharing, inspiring and teaching them arts, since he believe art has the power to transform minds and change society. Nicholas does art workshops with New York University students who visit Ghana for their final year project works.

Collaborations with Virginia Ryan Izzo, the foundation for contemporary art, arthaus, Matt Baker, Lyle Ashton Harris, Todd Gray, Japan Foundation and many more.

His art works were exhibited mainly in Ghana; in Italy by Virginia Ryan; in New York by Lyle Ashton Harris; in Los Angeles by Todd Gray; and in Japan by Japan Foundation; etc. Currently working on a new movie poster titled under gods directed and produced by Chino Moya
